Description of Volunteer Opportunities

Fundraising Activities

Selling items at home football games, basketball spirit nights, and Parkview socials; stadium clean-ups; Crystal Ball, etc.

Decorations

Decorate / coordinate each area of the event – Entry Way, Casino, Gym, Commons Area, Food Court, Small & Large Prize Area

Shirts

Design and take orders for volunteer and student shirts

Small Prize Committee

Coordinate and help organize donations & purchase of small prizes

Senior Wall Committee

Collect baby / senior pictures – design and decorate the senior wall

Volunteer to help in the casino

Organize the parent volunteers for working the different areas the night of After Prom

We need over 100 parent volunteers for the night of the event. Sign up for a shift to help After Prom run smoothly!

After Prom Open House – April 21st

The public is invited to attend an open house for After Prom from 6-8pm on Saturday April 21 at the Ankeny High School (AHS), 1155 SW Cherry Street to see a preview of what the students will be doing “After Prom”.

AHS parents have a long tradition of providing a safe and substance-free party for their students on prom night. The After Prom committee depends on donations from the parents & support of area businesses to provide entertainment, games, activities & food.


After Prom Details

  • After Prom is Saturday following the Prom Dance
  • At the High School
  • Doors open at Midnight
  • Entrance is west doors by the Activities Office
  • No admittance after 1:30am
  • You must show your STUDENT ID to enter
  • Guests must also show valid identification (student id, driver’s license)
  • IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED to enter After Prom
  • Sophomores wanting to attend After Prom must be a guest of an AHS Junior or Senior
  • Ankeny Freshman are NOT allowed to attend the Prom Dance or After Prom

Additional Details

  • New this year – Laser Tag
  • Suggested attire for Laser Tag – gym shorts or sweat pants (NO JEANS)
  • After Prom also features: Inflatables, Games, Activities, Casino, Food, Movies, Prizes
  • Grand Prize for Seniors only
  • Pre-owned Car donated by Karl Chevrolet

Be sure to get your official After Prom Shirt! 
The shirts are now available for students and for our parent volunteers.  If you are a parent volunteer and working the night of After Prom, we ask that you wear the After Prom shirt (not required but preferred).  Casino workers are asked to wear black pants and a white shirt.
The After Prom shirts are $10 and you can order yours by emailing ankenyafterprom@q.com   The shirts are colorful to go with our South of the Border theme and come in blue, orange, red, green and purple!  The shirts will also be sold at the high school during lunch periods in the next week or so!

Meeting Schedule

All regular meetings are on Mondays at 6:00 pm in the commons area of the NEW High School (enter through the main west doors). Here are the meeting dates:

  • April 2 & 16

Work Nights – Thursday, April 12 & 19; Decorate Friday, April 20 & Saturday, April 21

Prom Dance

Saturday, April 21,2012 from 9:00pm to Midnight

After Prom Party

Following the Dance from Midnight to 5:30am

All AHS juniors and seniors, and their guests, are welcome whether or not they attend the Prom dance. Last year, over 950 students were treated to a SAFE, fun-filled evening. After Prom does not happen on its own. It takes the support of parents and the community. We ask parents of all junior and seniors for $25 to defray costs of this worthwhile event.

SENIOR PARENTS-Please send a small baby picture and wallet-size senior picture for the traditional “Senior Wall” displayed at After Prom. Please mark the student’s name on the back of both pictures. Pictures will not be returned.

Please return your $25 (and pictures, if a senior) by mail to Ankeny After Prom, PO Box 1181, Ankeny, IA 50021 or bring to the AHS office. Be sure in include your student’s name and grade on the check.

Money and pictures will be accepted up to April 15, 2012 but your prompt attention is greatly appreciated.
